Yesterday we moved Mistic from his old home to his new barn. While I love Windhaven and have enjoyed riding and taking lessons there, it’s too far of a drive for me to ride on a regular basis. I needed to move Mistic as close as possible to ensure I can spend as much time with him as possible. Now, instead of being 40 minutes away, he’s 15 minutes away.
When we arrived he seemed okay, but as soon as the trailer pulled away and his old family left, he became quite nervous. He paced in his pen and called to the other horses.
Today, he was much better. They had moved him into a larger pen with a little mare and they seemed to be getting along quite well. I had hoped to be able to ride him today, but the closer I got to the barn, the colder and windier it got. I found him in the round pen and took him out. He was still a littler nervous so, I worked him the other round pen and this calmed his nerves. I brought him in the barn and gave him a good brush down. He relaxed a little more, but he was still pretty nervous about things.
It’s supposed to be cold again tomorrow, so I think I’ll give him another day or so. He should be settled in after a couple more days. I’ve been a little under the weather myself, so hopefully I’ll be feeling a little more clear in the head as well and we can get to riding. I’m really excited to ride in their arena.
